III. The Juvenile Justice System
When a student ends up in juvenile court, a judge must then determine whether the youth has committed the offense and how the youth should be sanctioned. This Part focuses on the laws, guidelines, and other factors that affect judges' dispositional decisions. It first describes the evolution of juvenilecourt dispositions over the past century and then discusses ways in which these policies contribute to the school-to-prison pipeline.
